Comets v phantoms

This was the first clash of the 2023/34 season for the two teams who last met in the Playoffs last May where Cardiff took the win. The game started strong with neither team showing weakness. The action was intense but scoreless until the last minute of the first period when Cardiff scored three goals in close succession the first coming from #53 Jenny Ball, followed by #87 Mya Edwards and then #15 Liv Taylor seconds before the whistle was blown.

The second period was again a fierce battle with both teams bringing a strong presence but the next goal didn't come until over halfway into the period when #20 Maddie Davies scored followed a few minutes later by #53 Jenny Ball's second goal.

Both teams came out fighting in the third period and seconds in #53 Jenny Ball went top shelf swiftly to complete her hat trick. An amazing start to her first game for the Comets this year! Roughing penalties were then given out to both sides as things got a little more physical and the Phantoms had 2 more penalties but managed to hold off the Comets from adding to the scoreline on the powerplay. The last goal of the game came from #15 Liv Taylor who finished the scoring for the game and the Comets secured the win 7-0.

Player of the Game went to the amazing #39 Mackenzie Macnamara for her second shutout of the season facing 33 shots on goal.

Well done to the Peterborough Phantoms for a tough game and we will see them on Cardiff home ground next time. The Veygo Cardiff Comets now look forward to their next away game on Saturday against the Coventry Phoenix.
